LANZAROTE

Map of Lanzarote

Lanzarote is the most easterly of the seven Canary Islands. It is located about 100km off the north west coast of Africa and north of the island of Fuerteventura.

The longest part of the island, running from north east to south west, is 60km in length and the widest point is only 21km.

It has been described as the island of 100 volcanoes, with a lunar like landscape, that has changed little since the last eruptions during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The highest elevation is about 670 metres above sea level and forms the national Park of Timanfaya where visitors can witness the live volcano in all its glory.

Despite the volcanic nature, Lanzarote has several beautiful beaches of white sand, such as Playa Blanca and Papagayo. The crystal clear ocean and long sandy beaches make it popular with tourists and surfers.
